The highest compliment a built-in can receive is that nobody notices it was added. We take profiles off your existing trim and match them exactly.

Good millwork disappears into a house. That means matching the existing profiles rather than approximating them, carrying sightlines through from adjacent rooms, and getting reveals consistent enough that the eye stops looking for the seam.

We start by taking physical profiles off your existing trim, then mill knives to match. Species and cut are matched too — rift-cut white oak next to rift-cut white oak, not plain-sawn standing in for it. Finish is colour-matched to the aged tone of the original, not to the raw sample.

Window seats, libraries, panelled walls, media walls, corner endcaps, coffered ceilings: all of it is drawn, dry-fitted in the shop, and then scribed on site, because no wall in a real house is plumb. That scribing is the difference between built-in and merely placed against.

I hired Madera to make a built in seat that matches the style of an existing built in, and to make some decorative endcaps for outside wall corners. Their project manager showed up, discussed the design, took a bunch of measurements, and left. A few days later I had shop drawings and a very reasonable estimate given the material involved (all rift cut white oak). Less than 2 months later everything was ready to install. The quality of the product they delivered is incredible. The bench perfectly matches the style we were going for, and the endcaps look as if they were installed by the original builder. Being in Tacoma while my home is in Seattle makes communication key, and they really nailed it. I couldn't be happier with my decision to hire them for the project.

Before you commission

Can you match millwork in an older home?

That is one of our specialities. We take a physical profile off the existing trim, grind matching knives, match species and cut, then colour-match the finish to the aged tone rather than the raw sample. Clients regularly report that visitors cannot tell which work is new.

Do you handle integrated lighting?

Yes. We detail for concealed LED runs, backlit panels and lit shelving during design, so the wiring is planned into the carcass rather than surface-mounted afterwards. Final electrical connection is made by your licensed electrician.

What is the typical lead time for built-ins?

Smaller work such as a window seat or a set of endcaps commonly runs six to eight weeks from approved drawings. Full libraries and panelled rooms take longer, and we give you a dated schedule up front.

Will the work be scribed to my walls?

Always. Nothing in a real house is plumb or square. Everything is dry-fitted in the shop and then scribed on site so it meets the wall cleanly, with no filler strip pretending to be a design decision.
